About The Stockroom Record

The Stockroom Record is a single-subject investigation built around one question: what happens to the people and companies left holding the physical consequences of a large retailer's inventory decisions.

This edition follows one transaction — the Gap-SVES dispute over an 11.2 million-unit Old Navy shipment — from the purchase orders and inventory files that defined it, through more than 300 truckloads and Florida warehouses, into a courtroom and an unresolved financial question.

What we do

Each report is built from the documentary record: contracts, amendments, court filings, testimony and the physical counts described by the parties involved. Where an account comes from one side of a dispute, that attribution is stated directly in the text rather than implied.

What we don't do

We do not present disputed figures as settled fact, and we do not pursue claims about named individuals where the reporting adds no verifiable information to the record. Our sourcing standards are described in full in our editorial policy.
